This workshop will provide a comprehensive introduction to Qigong, covering:

  1. Understanding Qigong and TCM: Kickstart your journey with an insightful introduction to Qigong and its foundational principles within Traditional Chinese Medicine. Learn how this gentle yet powerful form of exercise promotes healing and wellness.
  2. Introduction to the 12 Meridians: Gain a basic understanding of the 12 meridians, essential pathways in the body according to TCM, and learn a few key acupoints that enhance health and vitality.
  3. Path to Mastery in Qigong Practice : We will introduce the roadmap to deepen your Qigong practice, enabling you to effectively prescribe movements for yourself as needed. Discover how our teaching approach equips you with the skills necessary for a lifelong practice you can do anywhere at anytime.
  4. Learn movements from the first level of the practice: We will learn 3 to 6 core movements from the first level. These foundational techniques are easy to learn and serve as the building blocks for more advanced practices.
  5. Practice and Integration: Enjoy a guided practice led by Maxine, where you’ll integrate the first level movements into a seamless routine. Experience the joy of Qigong as you deepen your understanding and proficiency under her guidance.
  6. Path to Deep Practice: This workshop is an excellent starting point for those aspiring to become deep practitioners of Qigong. Our studio offers ongoing opportunities to learn deeper knowledge and practices for those who seek it.

Maxine’s wellness journey began in the parks of her childhood in China, where she would join her grandfather every morning. As he practiced Tai Chi with his friends, she would play with other kids in the park, imitating the movements of young martial artists around them. Those carefree days of childhood left an indelible mark on her.

Life’s conventional paths led Maxine into the demanding world of STEM, where the pressures of rapid personal growth took their toll, manifesting as severe stress and multiple panic attacks. Desperate for healing, the turn of the millennium marked her transformative encounter with yoga and set her on a lifelong path of wellness and spirituality.

Maxine is forever grateful for the opportunity to study with the renowned yoga teacher Francois Raoult, a dedicated disciple of Mr. Iyengar. Under his masterful guidance, she completed 500 hours of yoga teacher training, beginning her own journey as a yoga practitioner. Her thirst for knowledge and curiosity did not end there; she broadened her learning with studies in restorative yoga under Judith Lasater, explored the teachings of Wim Hof, Isha, and delved into Soma Breathing.

Throughout her diverse learning experiences, Maxine felt that although yoga and traditional Chinese 养生功法 (life-nourishing practices) have different origins, they share similarities in essence and are complementary to each other. She developed a deep desire to return to the roots, to learn authentic Chinese Qigong/Taichi/Martial Arts. This desire was so intense that it led her to the encounter with the 59th generation successor of Hua Tuo’s Five Animal Frolics, Master Hua Yi. Maxine felt extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to systematically study and practice the 华佗五禽戏 (Hua Tuo’s Five Animal Frolics) and 抚阳筋骨正脊功法 (Fu Yang Spine Alignment) under the guidance of Master Hua Yi. Maxine’s background in yoga facilitated her learning and integration of these practices, which brought marked improvements in her overall well-being.

Maxine aspires to be one of the 60th generation successors of the 华佗五禽戏 (Hua Tuo’s Five Animal Frolics), committed to passing on this knowledge and these practices. In doing so, she aims to offer a harmonious blend of traditions, guiding others toward wellness and inner peace on their personal journeys.
